Everyone is talking about crypto these days. It’s impossible to avoid this news. So, I decided to experiment to live one day using ONLY BITCOIN in London during the pandemic and after Elon Musk tweets. Let’s explore this.

Before starting, I just want to say that I’m not a financial advisor, I’m not selling any investments, everything I mention during the video is just my personal experience and also this video is inspired by other fellow content creators such as Yes Theory, Ryan Trahan and Ben Morris. I know they made similar videos in the past and I’m sure many other people as well but I wanted to make my very own version in London in 2021 during the pandemic.

OK the first thing I need is to buy bitcoins. So if you’re new into this world, bitcoin is a digital currency created by Satoshi Nakamoto few months after Lehman Brothers filed for the largest bankruptcy in history towards the end of 2008. To this day no one really knows who Satoshi is.

Unlike the standard currency that are centralised in Banks and controlled by Governments, Bitcoin is created, distributed, traded, and stored with the use of a decentralised ledger system, known as a blockchain. To be clear, there’s no bank or government ruling Bitcoins.

To verify all bitcoin transactions it is key to have massive computer power and in this context Elon Musk, a crypto supporter, few weeks ago tweeted that Tesla will no longer accept bitcoins over climate concerns.

How can I buy bitcoins so start my experiment?

I need a platform where I can buy and then move those bitcoins from the exchange to my personal wallet. For this experiment, I’ll use Coinbase as an Exchange and Exodus as a Wallet as they are super simple to use. I’ll buy Bitcoins in Coinbase and then move them to my Exodus Wallet. In fact, Exodus has also a built-in exchange feature where we can buy Bitcoins via Apple Pay (for iPhone users, not sure about Android).

So after buying my bitcoins I’ll have a Bitcoin Black Cab picking me up. I found him on Twitter. Then I’ll go for breakfast, lunch, dinner, use the public transport, bitcoins ATMs, exchange/storage apps, book a hotel in London and everything I can to make this challenge as successful as possible.

I could write a lot about this but this is one of the few challenges that you need to watch it. So I documented everything here below.

I technically used bitcoins all day. However, sometimes I needed a third party website to buy a gift card or do some bookings. I also wanted to show you my failures so you see the challenges of finding places accepting bitcoins in London.

Given more places in the world are trying to facilitate payments in cryptocurrency, it feels like they do not think of it just as a long term source of value. They think of it as something bigger.

I’m excited to see how Bitcoin and crypto will evolve and if one day these will be truly part of our daily life when it comes to payments or if this will fade away.
